Daung, a multifaceted talent hailing from the heart of Myanmar, embodies the fusion of sportsmanship and artistry that transcends conventional boundaries. Rising from the football fields to the cinematic stage, Daung’s journey is a testament to the limitless potential of human endeavors.
Born on the 30th of March in 1990 in the picturesque locale of Minhla, within the Tharyarwaddy District of Bago Division, Burma, Daung emerged as the fourth among five siblings. An innate wanderlust guided him to Mandalay, where the seeds of his ambitions began to sprout and flourish.
Yet, it was Yangon that beckoned him with its siren call of artistic pursuits. Trading the green of the football pitch for the allure of the spotlight, Daung ventured to the city in pursuit of a singing career. His harmonious dreams were met with a turning point as he inked a transformative 3-year contract in 2010, donning the jersey of Southern Myanmar F.C. as a striker. The juxtaposition of his pursuits, both on the stage and the field, mirrored the versatility that would later characterize his artistic journey.
2018 heralded a turning point that would etch Daung’s name in Myanmar’s cinematic tapestry. Taking center stage in the horror-thriller film “The Only Mom,” he unveiled a new facet of his talent—one steeped in method acting. The film’s departure from conventional melodrama found resonance in Daung’s nuanced performances, captivating audiences and critics alike. The film’s premiere on the 8th of February in 2019 marked the commencement of a cinematic phenomenon. With an unprecedented seven-week run in local theaters and screenings in thirteen other nations, “The Only Mom” solidified Daung’s standing as a rising star of Myanmar cinema.
The canvas of 2019 continued to unfold with brilliance as Daung seized leading roles in both film and television. “Wind up Dancer,” directed by Myo Myint Shwe and produced by JATAKA Film Production, cast him in a captivating male lead, etching his name in the annals of Burmese cinema history. As his presence illuminated the silver screen, Daung’s foray into television was equally captivating. The television series “Longing with Love,” where he shared the spotlight with talents like Paing Phyo Thu and Angel Lamung, added yet another layer to his burgeoning legacy.
Daung’s star didn’t just shine locally; it radiated across borders. His appearance at the Nineentertain Awards in Thailand on May 25, 2023, illuminated the global recognition he was garnering. His dedication and the impact of his work were acknowledged as the TV drama “From Chao Phraya to Irrawaddy,” in which he played a pivotal role, clinched both the Best TV Drama of the Year and Best Creative Team of the Year awards.
